Writing better online content for local government
As councils move many of their services online, more staff are called on to write and maintain web content.
Our Writing for the web course is a great way to help staff to write effective content and help users get the job done.
Who should take this course
The course is easy to understand and suited to anyone who is involved in creating and managing content – team leaders, topic experts, comms people, graphic designers or customer service officers. It is a good introduction to online content and a refresher for comms people, writers or content managers.
Syllabus – clear explanations and techniques
At the end of the course participants will understand:
- how users read and experience online content
- making content work hard beyond the website (findability)
- writing Plain language content (to Australian Standard ISO 24495-1:2024)
- laws and standards that we are required to meet in Australia
- realising your organisation’s content accessibility (WCAG) goals
- planning, measuring and monitoring to keep it relevant

Public, scheduled courses
These scheduled sessions are delivered online once a week at the same time, for 5 weeks. You register on a ‘per ticket’ basis. The pacing of the 60-minute sessions is designed to keep you engaged and learning. Check our upcoming course dates
